so i took myself on a trip to ace hardware to search for the perfect paint. my general style for picking out nail polish colors is to base the entirety of my decision off the name of the nail polish, because essie has such fun colors. but i had to really focus on not doing that because there were so many great names to pick from! this one is called chocolate sundae.
by the time i had sanded, primed and painted two coats of chocolate sundae, i had spent a good three days on every design blog known to human kind. thus i decided to use this as an experimental piece, since it is going to just sit inside my closet. i want some bling bling sparkle in my life this year, so i painted the knobs gold and then spiced them up even more with little flowers. you can see the close up below:
then i stumbled upon an incredible beach house on poppytalk, my new fave blog, that had a passage from the last harry potter book written on the wall and i got inspired. it took me a long time to figure out what to write on this, but eventually, of course, it landed on joan didion.
the text says:
but of course, that is not exactly it; not that i should ever use the line, but that i should remember the woman who said it and the afternoon i heard it. we were on her terrace by the sea, and we were finishing the wine left from lunch, trying to get what sun there was, a california winter sun. the woman whose husband had been born the night the titantic went down wanted to rent the house, wanted to go back to her children in paris. i remember wishing that I could afford the house which cost $1,000 a month. "someday you will," she said lazily. "someday it all comes."
this comes from "on keeping a notebook" one of my fave joan didion's from "slouching towards bethlehem." i love it because it is in joan didion's sort of sad, nostalgic style, but has this small thread of hope and excitement in it.
okay, that's all for now, next up will be my wall art projects!
You are my most literary friend! I would have stuck with the harry potter quote myself.
